Alcanar

The fertile lands of Alcanar, located in the very south of Catalonia, next to the river Sénia, have been cultivated since very ancient times. A testimony of this exploitation can be found in the Iberian village of la Moleta del Remei, located close to the hermitage of the same name which was surrounded by olive trees that were the most important crop of the town for centuries.

Olive trees in Benicarló

Benicarló is located next to the Mediterranean Sea, in the region of the Baix Maestrat, and has been known since the times of the Arabs for its agricultural wealth, its vegetable gardens and its "cenias" (a special hydraulic machine). The Ilercavones, from El Puig de la Nau, already established trade with the Phoenicians and Greeks who most likely brought the olive trees to this territory. Its great agricultural wealth today lies in market gardening: artichokes and citrus fruits, but in the dry land areas there are still olive, carob trees and almond trees.

Sant Jordi

Sant Jordi is located in the north of the province of Castellón, reaching the Sénia River. There is a high concentration of olive trees, some of which were planted by the Romans and cultivated by all civilizations with a total of 153 Millenary Olive Trees spread throughout the municipal territory, but especially found in the Els Muntells, Fontanals, Mas Na Cabanes and Mas d'en Pons areas.

Càlig

Càlig, in the Baix Maestrat region, lies in the north of the Region of Valencia. Within its municipal boundaries, it is home of a rich natural, cultural and landscape heritage, where, despite of the recent changes in cultivation, there is still a large number of olive farms. Among them, it is worth highlighting the existence of 56 Millenary Olive Trees inventoried, especially in the Pou Bonet, Pedralta, Crevetes, Solanes and Cabanils areas.

CANET LO ROIG "EL OLIVO"

The municipality of Canet lo Roig, located in the Baix Maestrat region has the largest number of millenary olive trees in all of the Valencian community: in 2019, there were 1,131 registrated and, some of them are among the most monumental. For this reason, with the collaboration of the owners, the town hall and the Mancomunidad Taula del Sénia, 3 areas and in addition a route (SL-V58) have been set up to admire the landscape and the best specimens.

Traiguera

Traiguera, located in the north of the Valencian Community, in the region of the Baix Maestrat, has a large number of olive trees on its territory, some of which were planted by the Romans and are concentrated around the ancient Roman Via Augusta as it passes through the municipality. Currently there are 589 specimens inscribed in the Inventory of millenary olive trees of the Sénia Territory, mainly in Freginals, Albagues, Pla d'en Bord, Mas de la Sansa, Vilagrossos, Basqueres, Mas de Caperó and la Castella.

From Penyal d'Ifach Nature Park to Cap d'Or: Calp, Moraira, Benissa and Poblenou Benitatxell

Under the impressive cliffs of the Ifach Rock Nature Park, to the slopes of Cap d'Or, you can access a submerged world of overwhelming life
and colour. You can find arches that serve as original openings out into the big blue. It is a place where soft contours meet gleaming sea beds, where sharp crags invite you to descend swaying weightlessly and where there are remains of shipwrecks from unknown times, full of life. The seascapes blend the colours of underwater nature and offer a spontaneous picture of the best and purest Mediterranean.

Serra Gelada Nature Park: Altea and Benidorm

At the heart of the Costa Blanca, where tourism is perhaps the most intense of the entire Region, it is pleasing to discover how its seabed is also among the most spectacular. So it is with the routes proposed in Altea and Benidorm, where it is possible to find little caves that never lose sight of daylight, islets full of underwater wildlife, an abundance of species only comparable in size and variety with destinations further from the coast, and endless thrilling satisfactions for lovers of marine nature.

Montgó Nature Park and San Antonio Marine Reserve: Dénia and Xàbia

This impressive enclave, facing the coasts of Dénia and Xàbia, is home excellent diving sites. We can find simple caves with lovely arcades and light plays as well as vertical walls that lead us down to a seabed with mazes of tunnels and grottos, where large fallen rocks provide for entertaining routes. Here, it is customary to find dusky groupers, gilt-head bream, sea bass, corbs, lobsters, toothhed bream, red scorpion fish, moray eels, octopus, sea urchins and other species. In cracks and overhangs, we can observe an abundant coral community as well as Posidonia Oceanica meadows.

Castellón and Columbretes Islands, the great Marine Reserve of the Mediterranean

The Costa del Azahar, full of orange groves with their characteristic perfume, can feel proud of its almost virgin coasts and practically deserted beaches within protected natural areas and, above all, regarding the seabed, one of the most emblematic places of the Mediterranean, the Columbretes Islands Nature Park. Situated off the coast of Castellón, the Columbretes Islands form a small paradise archipelago of volcanic origin, which owes its name [derived from the Latin “colubraria” = snake] to the onetime abundance there of snakes.
