Taula del Sénia talks about culture and sustainability in Oporto (5/2021)

Portugal presides this semester the Council of the European Union and during the same time a set of activities related to the competences of the Union and various current issues are carried out.

On May 5th and 6th, a conference on “Culture, cohesion and social impact” was held at the Serralves Foundation in Oporto (Portugal). This conference focused on the transformative potential of culture and social impact as a tool to address the complex problems that contemporary societies are facing, bringing together cultural actors, thinkers and politicians from across Europe with the aim of mobilizing the European Union to unlock the potential of culture for social cohesion.

One of the panels was dedicated to “Culture and environmental sustainability”, analyzing how culture can become a cornerstone of sustainable development and help build a greener world. Mafalda Damaso acted as coordinator and the following speakers participated:

  • Mª Teresa Adell – Enric Girona, Mancomunidad Taula del Sénia.
  • Mariana Pestana, Portuguese working group on the New European Bauhaus.
  • Sacha Kagan, Research Network Coordinator (European Sociology Association).
  • Daan Roosegaarde, Dutch artist and founder of Studio Roosegaarde.
