Torre de la Cárcel
The weakest points of any perimeter wall are its gates, so defensive towers were built next to them as protection. The best example of this can be seen in Segorbe with the Torre de la Cárcel (the prison tower), standing alongside one of the old access gates to the city, the Teruel gateway.
In the seaside town of Alboraya there is a chapel on the seashore that was built to commemorate a miracle, the Ermita dels Peixets (the chapel of the little fishes). The chapel, dedicated to the Most Holy Sacrament, stands in memory of the miracle that, according to the legend, took place on this very spot in the 14th century.
The influence of the Borgias in the 16th century on politics and religion left its mark on the Real Santuario Virgen María de la Font de la Salud, the most iconic monument in the town of Traiguera. Distinguished members of the Borgia family visited often and there are numerous documents recording the supply of municipal services by the Mestre de Montesa, Pere Lluís Garceran de Borgia.
The Casa Natal de Alejandro VI (Birthplace of Alexander VI) is in Xàtiva. Pope Alexander VI was born here in this urban mansion in 1378 and his family lived here while they were in the Kingdom of València. The house belonged to subsequent generations of the family. It was refurbished in the mid-20th century.
The Fuente Real de la Trinidad (Royal Trinidad Fountain), a historic ornamental fountain, was built in the 15th century when Pope Calixtus III was just a boy. It's in Plaça de la Trinitat in Xàtiva and is listed as an Asset of Local Importance.
A double fortress stretching over almost 1 kilometre in the Sierra del Castell overlooking Xàtiva. The city’s strategic location has made it both a setting and a witness in numerous conflicts. The castle is divided into Castell Menor and Castell Major, with the latter built on the site of Iberian and Roman remains. It was extended and fortified by the succession of cultures that settled in this area. It was already famous during Hannibal's campaigns, and in the period of Al-Andalus.
The Oratorio de lso Borgia, also known as Iglesia de la Torre (Church of the Tower), is in Canals, València. The church was built in the Early Gothic style, probably in the 13th century. The Oratory is opposite the Torre de los Borgia (Tower of the Borgias). It has undergone several refurbishments since it was built. In the 1980s refurbishment work was carried out mainly on the roof. Sampling has also revealed polychrome decoration.
The University of València was founded in 1499 under the name of Estudi General, and its purpose was to unify the various higher education centres around València in one single location.
The Torreón de los Borgia (the Borgia Watchtower) is in the Valencian town of Canals. It has been listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest since 2000.
A fortified Medieval farmhouse with three embrasures and a watchtower on each corner. The building was acquired by Alfonso de Borgia y Castro, youngest son of Francisco de Borgia. It was built during the 14th century and was the summer residence of the Royal Dukes, converted into a stately home for recreation and hunting.
